The City of Chestermere has accepted interns into its land-use planner stream through the Municipal Internship Program.
According to a news release from the Alberta government, post-secondary graduates will be able to pursue experience in public service.
"Municipal governments offer rewarding career pathways that provide people with the opportunity to make a direct impact in local Alberta communities. Working in municipal governments strengthens ties between people and their community and helps them gain valuable skills that can be carried across their entire professional careers," wrote the province.
The organization said interns will also be able to help out their chosen municipalities during the 2025 general election.
"Interns participating in the program will be offered a competitive salary over the course of an 18-month term, along with professional development opportunities and mentorship from experienced professionals. This will ensure that participants will not only develop their skills but also expand their professional networks, setting the stage for long-term career growth," added the provincial government.
A total of 15 other municipalities have accepted interns in fields like administration and finance as well.
