The Town of Strathmore has announced that the proposed Eagle Heights development has been cancelled.

"Following a review of the file, the Development Authority identified an error in the permitting process," wrote the town. "The proposed development application exceeded the maximum site area and density requirements set out in the Town’s Land Use Bylaw."

The town claims that a variance would have been required to allow the development, but it wasn't granted when the permit was issued.

"The lands remain districted high-density, and they still may be developed in accordance with the Town’s Land Use Bylaw," added the town. "Any future applications to develop the lands will be processed in accordance with the Land Use Bylaw."

Earlier in February, the Strathmore Bird Sanctuary Initiative asked Strathmore Town Council to cancel the development, citing environmental concerns.

Whether the cancellation was related to the initiative's presentation is not known at this time.

The Eagle Heights development was announced in 2024 and would have brought 147 apartments to Strathmore as well as a community garden, gym, and dog wash.
