Humboldt's building permit numbers were up in 2024 according to the City, and that's contributing to the postive numbers the province is reporting based on data from Statistics Canada.
The latest numbers show that the value of the province's building permits increased by 59.4 per cent between December 2023 and December 2024, putting Saskatchewan in second place year-over-year among all the provinces.
These figures follow up on a report from last month which also placed the province in the same position.
"Saskatchewan's business-friendly environment is leading to more investment and economic activity, which is demonstrated through the continued growth of our construction sector," Minister of Trade and Export Development Warren Kaeding said. "The upward trend in building permits being issued is creating new jobs and opportunities for Saskatchewan people. Through our investment attraction efforts, more people are choosing Saskatchewan to live, work, and raise a family than ever before."
The province's two largest cities also experienced strong year-over-year growth with 50.4 per cent in Regina and 34.2 per cent in Saskatoon respectively.
In December 2024, building permits in Saskatchewan totalled $258 million.
The total value of building permits represents the dollar value of construction permits for residential and non-residential buildings.
Estevan also saw success in that sector, as the city reported a record 92 development permits issued in 2024, the highest since 2017.
