Rather than just wearing green and talking about luck, a Christian band from Ireland is encouraging believers to pray as Saint Patrick did.
"What if instead of all the kitschy St. Patrick's Day stuff, we just worshipped the same God he praised?" says Rend Collective on social media, playing a portion of a new song.
Their single "The Prayer of St. Patrick" is being released on Friday, Feb. 21, ahead of the often-celebrated St. Patrick's Day on March 17.
"Are we crazy for thinking rewriting an obscure ancient hymn and arranging it for multiple BANJOS is a good idea?"
The patron Saint Patrick is best known for bringing Christianity to many areas of Ireland in the 5th century. In the last hundred years or so, St. Patrick's Day has become more secular in nature, involving people dressing up and going to clubs to drink green beer. Rend Collective is hoping to ignite a little more of the true spirit of the day by singing an actual prayer he wrote.
The band will start their next tour, FOLK!, on Mar. 6 in North Carolina. After performing across the U.S.A., Rend Collective will begin their Canadian leg of the tour by starting in Winnipeg on Mar. 27. Tickets for the show can be purchased here.
