Motorists faced delays on the QEII, southbound just outside Airdrie’s city limits, as emergency crews responded to what traffic maps suggested may have been two collisions. Residual traffic delays are expected to continue.
According to 511 Alberta, the stretch of Highway 2 from Calgary city limits to the north of the Highway 2A junction was bare and dry. However, icy sections, slippery conditions, and blowing snow were reported on the shoulders, with icy wheel paths potentially affecting traction. Visibility remained good.
Cold temperatures and dangerous wind chills persist. Skies are expected to clear after morning flurries Tuesday, with a high of –14 C. Wind chills will make it feel closer to –40 in the morning and –20 in the afternoon. Overnight, temperatures will drop to –26 C, with wind chills near –36.
Wednesday brings sunshine, though southeast winds gusting to 40 km/h will drive morning wind chills to –38 C. The high is expected to reach –6 C.
Conditions ease later in the week, with sunny skies and a high of 6 C on Thursday. Friday, we will see a mix of sun and clouds with a high of 8 C.
