Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 22nd and be part of The Coldest Night of the Year, a nationwide fundraiser supporting the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA). This event brings the Grande Prairie community together to walk in solidarity for those who are hurting, hungry, and homeless.
“It’s a chance for the people of Grande Prairie to come together and walk on what they call the coldest night of the year to raise funds for those who need it most,” says Chris Steel, the event director.
Chris, who has personally benefited from CMHA programs, is passionate about the cause. “I started as a participant in recovery programs, then became a volunteer, and now I work for CMHA. I’ve seen firsthand the impact these programs have on people’s lives.”
Here’s how you can get involved:
-Register at cnoy.org/grandprairie to join or create a team
-Donate directly to support the cause
-Local businesses can sign up as sponsors
The event kicks off at 4:00 pm at Muskoseepi Park, with the walk starting at 5:00 pm. Participants can choose between a 2 km or 5 km route, and after the walk, everyone is invited to enjoy a warm bowl of chili, generously provided by The Brew House.
