Gregory D. Filips September 21, 1971 - September 27, 2021

Our family regretfully announces the unexpected passing of our son Gregory (Greg) Donald Filips who left this earth on September 27, 2021 in Penticton, British Columbia.

Greg was born to Alicia and Don Filips on September 21, 1971 in Kenora, Ontario.

He is survived by his parents, brothers: Mark and Ian (Stacy) and nephew Mason, who was the light of uncle Greg's life. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

Greg appreciated all of his many friends both at home in Kenora, and in B.C. where he had resided for the past several years.

When at home in Kenora, Greg loved to be at camp on Lake of the Woods, where his friends would join him out there. It was there that he could kick back, go fishing and putter around the cottage. It was truly his respite from the business of the world around him.

Our family was not expecting the loss of Greg, and for his life to be cut short so soon. He will be forever loved and missed.

A heartfelt thanks is extended to the Penticton Regional Hospital for caring enough about Greg to send the RCMP to check on him when he didn't show up for his shift. Thank you also to the OPP Constable J. Wood for his compassion when delivering the devastating news to us. To Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre (Cory Jinkerson) for their professional guidance and help arranging to bring Greg home; to Stacy Morgan-Filips and Theresa McDonald (aka Mrs. Sarniki) for all their help. Thanks also to The Spirit Club, to cousin Vivian Gustafson for providing an urn from her pottery skills, and all the tributes and messages of condolences that have been pouring in: We are deeply touched by the impact Greg had on so many.

A Funeral Mass for Greg will take place at Notre Dame du Portage Roman Catholic Church on Saturday, October 9, 2021 at 11:00 am with his brother Father Mark Filips presiding, assisted by Deacon Earl Johnson and wife Carolyn. Following COVID ruling and social distancing attendance is by invitation only. Cremation will follow with a private family interment at a later date.

We are devastated by his loss and will feel his absence forever.

"Go rest high on that Mountain, son your work on Earth is done."

In Greg's memory, donations to the L.W.D.H. (Lake of the Woods District Hospital) are deeply appreciated.

Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.brownfuneralhomekenora.com for the Filips family.
