It's a big new funding announcement that has the City of Chestermere's Mayor Shannon Dean quite excited.
Dean explained that a new K-9 school will be built in the community of Dawson's Landing in the city.
"I am so proud the work council and administration has done to get to this announcement today. By working collaboratively with RVS and the provincial government we have a new K-9 school approved for Chestermere. We continue to work hard for the new high school and other schools as well. Great news for Chestermere."
Dean said the last public school that opened in Chestermere was in 2014. The city also has plans to build a new facility for students in high school.
"We're hoping to have more announcements here in the near future as we finish off what's required to be done in the new high school."
The school will help deal with overcrowding as the demand for more space for students has increased while also helping create a good working and learning environment for educators and students alike.
"We look forward to continuing our work alongside Rocky View Schools to create a better Chestermere for everyone," mentioned the city in a news release.
The city currently has over 28,000 people that live in the area according to the 2024 Municipal Census.
