Julia Redsky

SEPTEMBER 11, 1948 – OCTOBER 8, 2021

It is with great sadness that we announce that our dear mother, Julia Redsky lovingly known as ‘JR’ has passed on into Glory. Julia was predeceased by her beloved husband, Lloyd Frederick Redsky Sr. whom she loved and missed very much. He’s already there waiting to embrace her, where they would be eternally together forever.

Julia was predeceased by her parents, Fred (formerly known as Greenfeather) Sr. and Doris Greene; grandparents, Charlie and Matilda Greene; her older baby brother, her sister Hilda Major; her in-laws (Lloyd’s sibling), Lawrence, Charles, Makonce, Mary Rose; her brothers-in-law, Robert Major, Larry Holmstrom, Joseph Morrison and Gordon Hyde; her nephews, Joey Major, Randy Lee; her cousin, Steve Lawson and many beloved cousins and relatives before her.

Julia leaves her sons, Lloyd Jr. (Marge), Derek (Priscilla, in loving memory of) and Shaun (Elaine). Grandchildren: Monique, Melissa, Dwayne, Paul, Grant, Sherri and Amelia; great-grandchildren, Tyrin, Kylie, Shantae, Myla, Yasmine, Niibin, Makara and Kerris, all whom she loved and adored immensely. She enjoyed her visits with each and always had gifts to give as she enjoyed shopping for them.

Julia is survived by siblings, Bertha Holmstrom, Gloria Hyde, Francine Lee, Fred Greene Jr. (Susan), Stewart Greene, Carl Greene (Rhea) and Bradley Greene (Patricia). All of their children, Jim (Laurie), Barbara (Randy), Wayne (Christina), Traci (Floriberto), Karen (Tim), Ava, Carla (John), Lee Ann (Scott), Rachel (Paul), Robert, Doug (Ramona), Cheri (Josie), Tandy (Carl), Judy (Darryl), Jackie, Roxanne (Aaron), Kerry, Shalon, Paul, Wade, Pamela, Stephanie, Jared, Caitlyn, Charlie, Crystal and Sheldon, and their children and grandchildren too numerous to name but acknowledge each and every one.

Julia is lovingly remembered by her cousins, Fraser Greene (late Rose), Doreen Hunter (Dan), Stella Sinclair (late Alfred), Jenny Greene, Jim Greene (Pat), Sharon Packo (Vic), Warren Greene, Suzanne Lawson (late Steve) and their families too numerous to mention but acknowledge each and every one.

Julia was born and raised in both respective communities of Shoal Lake 39 and Shoal Lake 40. She lived most of her life in Shoal Lake 40, nearby her parent’s home. She attended Cecilia Jeffrey residential School and became an IRS Survivor from that experience. On a positive, experience there she met the love of her life, Lloyd Redsky Sr., together they raised their sons in Shoal Lake 40.

In previous years, she was employed as a Book-keeper and Welfare Administrator. Her past work experience in Social Work with over 20 years for various child care services such as Tikinagan Child and Family Services and Anishinabe Abiinoji Family Services (formerly Weechitewin). She served as a Board Member for Anishinaabe Abiinoji Family Services, Kekekoziibii Development Corporation, Women’s Circle Representative and involved with many other organizations over many years.

Julia was a very dedicated advocate and was a strong voice for her community of Shoal Lake 40. She worked and travelled tirelessly to attend meetings or trainings to serve the communities she represented. She enjoyed her visits with elders, colleagues and friends through her life.

Julia was outgoing and friendly but also valued her privacy. She took immaculate care of herself and could make anything she wore look classy.

Julia was an avid sports fan, who loved to watch football. Her favourite team was the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. She always said she owned a piece of real estate, as she had bought herself a metre of the old turf from the Blue Bombers Stadium. She proudly displayed her ‘turf’ of real estate.

Julia enjoyed hockey and attended the various indigenous hockey tournaments over the years within the Treaty 3 area or the occasional tournament in southern Manitoba. She loudly cheered for the Shoal Lake Flyers with her siblings and relatives during those games.

Julia loved commercial fishing, blueberry picking, casino trips with her siblings and relatives, her favourite daily TV show was ‘The Price is Right’. She was a lifelong fan on ‘Elvis Presley’. She attended three of his concerts and visited the famed, Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, she loved her memorabilia.

Julia ‘JR’ will be forever loved and missed by all her sons, her cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her siblings, many numerous family, relatives, friends and colleagues.

The family would like to extend their thank you to the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, especially the Intensive Care Unit, Doctor Rizk and Registered Nurse Tori.

Special thanks to Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Centre for the funeral arrangements. A private family and extended family member viewing to take place on Thursday, October 14, 2021 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Afterwards, cremation will take place in Winnipeg, Manitoba.

All family, relatives, friends, colleagues of Julia ‘JR’ are invited to a Celebration of Life gathering that will be held on Saturday, October 16, 2021 from 1:00 – 4:00 pm with Pastor Frank Kowal officiating.
