Ulysse Pedneault

OCTOBER 26, 1928 – OCTOBER 12, 2021

Peacefully, after a valiant battle with cancer, Ulysse Pedneault, a resident of Birchwood Terrace, passed away on October 12, 2021 at the age of 92 years, just 14 days shy of his 93rd birthday.

He is survived by Anne, his loving wife of 70 years, his children Grant (Jill), Kathy (Harold), Russ (Barb) and daughter-in-law Lori. His grandchildren Jason and Brandi Hayberg, Rebecca, Sasha and Dustin Pedneault, and Rikki Watson and families. His great grandchildren Liam Watson and Micah and Aubrey Willson. His niece Diane Zilinski, and nephews Doug Mathieson and Jerry Pedneault and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Ulysse and Leocaidie Pedneault, son Richard, grandson Curtis Hayberg, sister Terry Mathieson, brother Hector Pedneault, sister-in-law Helen Pedneault and niece Michelle Pedneault.

Dad was born in Victoria B.C. and moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba as a child. He hired on with CP Rail on July 25, 1944 and worked his way up to Engineer, retiring on February 1, 1990. He was a 3rd and 4th Degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a faithful member of Notre Dame Parish. He was also a volunteer for Meals on Wheels for several years.

He met the love of his life, Anne Jean Malona in 1949 and they were happily married on May 19, 1951. Dad was a travelling man and he and mom enjoyed many trips across Canada and into the United States in their motorhome. When not travelling you could always find him out at his favorite fishing hole, summer or winter. Dad and mom also enjoyed their weekly visits out to Kathy and Harold’s camp on Lake of the Woods.

He was a bit of a knit picker at keeping his car windows spotless and took it upon himself to keep ours clean too. He was a snow shoveler extraordinaire, as his driveway was always meticulously clear. He was our professional deer counter. We always got a laugh as he and mom would specifically take car rides to go and count the deer in the area. He loved his grand dogs, always visiting Mic, Daisy, Abby and Kenzie with treats in his pocket.

Dad was so proud to be a grandpa and great grandpa always teasing and cajoling with the grand kids. Dad was very proud of his family and we will remember him for the joy and laughter he brought to our lives.

A Private Family Celebration of Ulysse’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. October 23rd, 2021 at Notre Dame Parish, with burial to follow at Lake of the Woods Cemetery.

In honour of Ulysse, donations to the Alzheimer Society or one’s charity of choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
