It's a busy month for the Kyle Elks.
They start provincials this weekend while still in the midst of the Sask Valley Hockey League playoffs.
Head Coach Dawson Tangen noted they moved up to 'A' provincials this year and will face Leroy.
"We picked up a few more players this year with our imports and we had to go into 'A' provincials this year," Tangen said. "We did pick up a player that played (for Cabri) too. It'll be a different look for us. We are looking forward to the challenge for something different and get to play some new teams."
The Elks brought in Davin Burton from the Cabri Bulldogs of the Whitemud Hockey League for their provincial run. He had 9 points in 7 games for Cabri this season and is fresh off playing for the University of Central Oklahoma in the ACHA.
"Just the addition of one player," Tangen said. "We have so many local guys and so many good hockey players that we just felt we'd stick with what we have and see how things go."
The Elks are happy with their depth which includes ten players who have been at least a point per game for them this season.
"That's part of the reason our team is so successful because we can kind of throw anyone out there at any time," Tangen said. "Not very often on senior teams you have three to four lines that you can pop out there any time and feel comfortable with matchups. This series for instance we don't have home ice advantage so when you have a team where you can throw anyone out there it's helpful."
The best-of-three series starts Sunday in Kyle. We'll have the game for you on Country 94.1's Local Sports Live powered by OMT Projects at 6:50 PM. You can listen to the game on the radio or by clicking here for the listen live feature.
The Elks are also competing in league playoffs and are tied at 1 with Dinsmore in a best-of-five second round series that continues next Wednesday. Former WHLer Josh Uhrich gave Dinsmore the 4-3 double overtime win in Game 2 of that series last night.
The other league semifinal has Kenaston and Davidson tied at 1 as well.
