The pastors of Hillsong San Francisco announced last week that they would be moving into a new season as a new church under a new name.
Pastors Brenden and Jacqui Brown made this announcement last Sunday, saying the new church would be under their leadership.
Phil Dooley, a Hillsong global senior pastor also brought up the news during the sermon on Feb. 16.
"After much prayer and thoughtful consideration, we're announcing that Brenden and Jacqui Brown will be taking on the leadership of our church community in San Francisco as a separate church, so separating from what has been Hillsong California.
"We believe the time is right for this. This is an exciting season for the Browns and for our church in San Francisco."
Sam Lopez, lead pastor of Hillson California, had many questions from the congregation on the news wondering what led to this separation. During that same service, he let the congregation know that this had been in discussion for about two years and their exit was not on bad terms.
"We have an incredible couple with vision…and God has asked them to take a step of faith,” said Lopez.
This weekend, the couple announced that their church would be called Heirs Church.
"We are so excited for all that is ahead," said Jacqui. " We can't wait to share the story and the heart and the vision of the church."
"We are full of hope for the future and are so thankful to God for leading us into this next season together," said the couple in a post on Instagram.
Heirs Church will hold its official launch on March 30.
