The Conservative nomination race is heating up in the Bow River.

David Bexte is looking to lead the Conservative Party banner for the riding in the next Canadian election.

Bexte explained why he decided to throw his hat in the ring.

"I spent my career and my life working in Alberta's two biggest industries, agriculture and energy so I understand first-hand the challenges that are facing families and workers and business owners in Bow River."

Bexte resides in Vulcan County and was born and raised on a farm. He said he's been a lifelong Conservative.

If given the chance to sit as the MP for the riding Bexte told StrathmoreNow that he would support farmers.

"My plan is to cut the tax burden on farmers so that they can focus on what they do best, which is feeding Canada and feeding the world. Family farms are a national strategic asset, and they should be treated as such."

Bill C-18 which restricts Canadians from sharing news on social media sites like Facebook is also at the top of his mind.

"I think it should be rescinded. Censorship is not acceptable in any worldview that makes any sense," Bexte remarked.

Bexte believes he is the best candidate due to his relationships in the riding.

"I have connections to every aspect of the Bow River constituency. I have integrity and I want to represent them to the best of my ability."

He is running on a slogan which is family, community, and country.

There is still no word on when Conservatives in the Bow River will choose their next candidate.
