The Town of Drumheller is reminding residents that despite the area's recent change in its drinking water, it's still safe to consume.
The water has a distinct odour and appearance, however, testing by the City of Calgary said the treated water meets provincial and federal health standards.
"The testing results show that any noted changes in the water’s taste or smell are purely aesthetic and do not pose a health risk. Minerals, organic substances, or sediment can discolour drinking water," wrote a news release from the town.
According to the report, the water contains iron which can give off a rusty, reddish brown colour along with manganese, which can cause it to look black.
As well, dissolved organic matter can make it appear yellow, and naturally occurring organic matter can cause the water to be discoloured.
Sediment can also make the water appear yellow, brown or black.
All of the samples were tested on Feb. 3.
