The City of Chestermere is reminding residents that public receptacles are not for residential waste.

"Disposing of household garbage in public receptacles is not permitted," said the city. "This means that household garbage should always be disposed of in household garbage bins and never in public litter bins."

Items that are not allowed in public garbage bins include:

  • Household packaging.
  • Food waste.
  • Paint and aerosols.
  • Electronics.
  • Pet waste.

According to the city, food waste and pet waste should be placed into your green bin.

The city warns that improper use of the garbage bins may result in a citation, or even a violation being issued.
