The Estevan Early Years Family Resource Centre is making it easier for families to stay active with the Play It Forward Community Lending Closet, a free resource offering sports equipment, outdoor gear, and games to borrow.
Sydney Wanner from the Family Centre said the idea came from a desire to make activities more accessible.
"We wanted to remove some barriers," Wanner explained. "We wanted to provide opportunities for families to spend time together, whether that be outside or just trying a new sport. So yeah, we really just wanted to encourage families to have that quality time together."
The Lending Closet includes a wide selection of items, from hockey sticks and skates to soccer balls, yoga mats, and even frisbee golf sets that were generously donated by the community, with a significant contribution from Canadian Tire.
"Lots of members from the community have just dropped things off, and then a huge thank you to Canadian Tire—they gave us a big drop off as well, so we're very grateful and we're still collecting items."
An adult is required to sign out equipment. More details, including a full list of available items, can be found in the Facebook post below.
