There were few highlights in the 2025 Alberta Budget for capital projects in Strathmore and the area.
However, Rocky Mountain Clean Fuels near Carseland received a total of just over $21 million over three years to support the expansion of its synthetic diesel facility.
The announcement was made in December 2024 and was announced as one of the bigger capital projects for the region.
The grant was handed out as part of the Alberta Petrochemicals Incentive Program (APIP) in 2020.
"The grant will support a synthetic diesel plant in Wheatland County near Carseland, east of Calgary, that uses natural gas and natural gas liquids as feedstock to produce synthetic diesel, naphtha, and wax," mentioned the province in a news release.
"Naphtha is a petroleum fraction that can be used for gasoline blend stock and diluent. The plant will make a small volume of high-value Fischer Tropsch paraffin wax used for lubricants, hot melt adhesives, paints, and coatings."
Production on the $173 million facility started near the end of November 2024.
"The facility is already producing about 220 barrels per day (bpd) of synthetic diesel, naphtha, and wax, and is expected to produce 500 bpd at full capacity," added the Alberta government.
The project has already generated over 900 new jobs during construction and operation.
