Cody Holdaway, general manager of the Agra Risk Wheatland Kings, spoke about the team's record-breaking season.

The Kings were knocked out of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) playoff semifinals in game four against the Medicine Hat Cubs on Friday, Feb. 28.

"It was a good game, the boys played well, but at the end of the day we couldn't pull it off," said Holdaway. "The game was tied with about three minutes left, and then Medicine Hat snuck one. Then we pulled our goalie and they snuck another in from there."

Although the season is over for the Kings, they will continue to train throughout the summer at the Strathmore Family Centre Arena. The Kings are expected to return to exhibition games in September.

However, Holdaway says that four players will be leaving the team as they are too old to play in the HJHL, which only allows four 21-year-olds per team.

"The team will have a private year-end banquet for friends and family where we do some internal player awards like most valuable player and rookie of the year."

Despite the loss, it was a historic season for the Kings. Not only did they break the record for most wins in the regular season, but they made it farther into playoffs than they ever had before.

"I think the best way to describe it is bittersweet," added Holdaway. "We deserved a deep playoff run, but we still had a franchise record-setting season, and that's something to be proud of."

On behalf of the Kings, Holdaway thanked the family, friends, and fans who attended the games and showed support for the team throughout the 2024-25 season.
