A resident near Strathmore noticed a peculiar sight outside of their home in late February.

In a since-deleted social media post, the resident shared an image of an emu on their driveway. The post garnered a lot of attention, with many residents bewildered as to how an emu made its way near Strathmore.

On Feb. 25 it was announced that the emu was returned to its rightful owner, a zoo-farm hybrid located just outside of Strathmore.

"Poppy is a new resident at our farm, she arrived at the end of January from southern Alberta," said Amanda Jensen, owner of The Barnyard Zoo. "Poppy has her own insulated barn that she shares with her best friend, a lavender guinea fowl hen. They are inseparable."

Jensen says that Poppy had escaped after a panel was blown down from the wind.

"My phone had blown up asking if Poppy was home. I had walked out into our field and followed her dinosaur-looking tracks straight to our neighbors house."

After lifting Poppy over the neighbour's fence and marching her home, the emu was given a timeout.

"We actually never saw the social media post, but it sure caused quite a stir," added Jensen.

The Barnyard Zoo has several other animals, including ducks, rabbits, sheep, pigs, cows, goats, and more, describing itself as "a place for party animals".
