The City of Chestermere is encouraging residents to sign up for an initiative to help RCMP protect the community.

"Protect your property, family, and community by registering your security cameras with the Chestermere RCMP Capture Program. By participating, you assist the RCMP in deterring crime and speeding up investigations by providing crucial footage," mentioned the city in a Facebook post.

According to the city, the program looks to map security cameras in the community to help prevent crime.

"If you join, the RCMP can quickly contact you to check your cameras for recordings that may aid investigations. This partnership between the RCMP and Chestermere residents helps make the community safer," added the city.

Staff with the city said the program is voluntary and residents will keep ownership of their footage.

"The police will not access live feeds or remove equipment. You can also opt out at any time," mentioned the organization.
