The Winnipeg Jets ended their three-game losing streak in convincing fashion Thursday night, securing a 4-1 victory over the Philadelphia Flyers.

Jets' power play back on track

Not only did the Jets return to the win column, but their league-best power play also found its form again after recent struggles. Winnipeg went a perfect 2-for-2 with the man advantage.

Mark Scheifele opened the scoring at 8:32 of the first period with a power-play goal. He finished the night with a goal and two assists.

"I thought we played great," Scheifele told reporters postgame. "We got back in the win column. I wouldn't say the last couple of games we've played awful, but to get our power play scoring like that, it was a good game."

Nikolaj Ehlers extended the lead to 2-0 with another power-play goal at 15:13 of the first.

The Jets' power play now operates at 32.0 per cent, maintaining its position as the top unit in the league.

Head coach Scott Arniel was pleased to see the special teams deliver.

"The things that we stress—attack, retrievals, support—were all there tonight," Arniel said. "Scheif’s first goal was a great example of that, a shot with crashing the net. That power play was big in the first period and really got them on their heels. Anytime you can do that on the road, that’s big."

Kyle Connor made it 3-0 at 5:28 of the second period, finishing with a goal and an assist. Linemate Gabriel Vilardi contributed three assists.

Captain Adam Lowry put the Jets ahead 4-0 at 9:03, finishing off a centring pass from Mason Appleton.

Matvei Michkov broke Eric Comrie’s shutout bid at 17:18 of the third period, but it was too little, too late for the Flyers.

Jets backup goalie Eric Comrie stopped 21 shots to earn his fourth win in five games.

Historic night for Winnipeg

The Jets became the first team to reach 90 points this season. Their 20th road win in just 31 games set a new franchise record for the fewest road games needed to reach that mark, surpassing last season’s record of 33 games.

Scheifele’s goal was his 35th of the season, marking his third time reaching that total. He now ranks second in franchise history behind Ilya Kovalchuk, who achieved the feat six times.

Ehlers hit the 20-goal mark for the eighth time, tying Kovalchuk and Connor for second-most in team history. Scheifele leads with 10 such seasons.

What’s next

The Jets continue their road trip tonight against the New Jersey Devils before closing it out Sunday in Carolina.

Winnipeg holds a two-point lead over the Washington Capitals for the top spot in the league and sits six points ahead of Dallas for first place in the Central Division.
