Horseshoe Crossing High School held its grand opening ceremony on Friday, Mar. 7.
The school, located in the south end of Langdon, has been constructed over the last three years. The event was attended by students, staff, families, and special guests.
Grade 11 student Madison Young lives in Langdon and said that before Horseshoe Crossing opened, she attended school in Chestermere.
"It's definitely so much nicer not having to get up as early and being able to walk to the school. Having to go on the bus every day is just a hassle. I didn't like it," said Young.
Other guests at the event included Strathmore-Chestermere MLA Chantelle De Jonge, who also serves the Langdon area.
"Coming to Horseshoe and being able to get a one-on-one with the teachers has improved so much. My grades are so much better than they were last year. They're so helpful," said Young.
Although the grand opening took place in March, the school has been operating since the start of the 2024/25 school year. Despite this, there are no Grade 12 students currently at the school to prevent students from spending their final year in a new classroom.
"The teachers ask what you need help with, and they'll guide you. I want to be a social worker when I'm older, and the guidance counselor helped me get on the right path."
The school can host 1,000 students, with over 326 currently attending classes. The school also has 25 classrooms and a large science lab.
