When the weather starts getting warmer, many people start looking forward to camping, beach days, and outdoor sports. But for gardeners and plant lovers alike... the first sign of melting snow marks the beginning of the planting season!

It also means it’s time to stock up seeds and get your starters ready for summer.

Thankfully, Blondie’s Gift and Garden Center is open year-round, so everything you need to get started, including seeds, potting soil, compost, and more, is already in stock and ready to grow!

"We’re excited to get seeding and see what flowers and vegetables people are getting ready as we wait for the trees and shrubs to arrive in April,” said Blondie’s owner, Joyce Swaren.

Swaren opened Blondie's Gift and Garden Center in Dunmore in 2004, bringing with her 20 years of experience working in local greenhouses, and expertise from a horticultural degree. Most importantly, though, she brings her passion for the work with her every day.

She said, “I just love it. I love being in the greenhouse all the time, and in the sunshine. That’s all there is to it, really. I've always just loved it, and love sharing my joy with my customers.”

Throughout the summer months, Blondie’s carries vegetable starters and annuals and perennials. They also offer landscaping consulting services to help you bring your outdoor space to life.

“We’ll come take a look at your space and recommend the best plants for your home based on sun and shade levels, whether you want shrubs or flowers, that kind of thing,” said Swaren. “Then we’ll come prep the soil for you and you can come pick up your plants and get planting!”

Outside of the summer months, you can still visit Blondie’s for tropical plants, cacti, home and garden decor, outdoor furniture, plant pots, and giftware.

“There is always something going on,” said Swaren.

Coming up this spring, Blondie’s will be hosting classes to build patio pots, an Easter Bunny hunt in the greenhouse, and a Mom and Daughter flower session for Mother’s Day.

“In the winter, we have tons of Christmas festivities, too,” she added. “We set up a big Christmas tree, and we have potting parties every weekend where customers can make their own porch pots, wreaths, things like that.” As you're watching the snow melt and soaking up the sun, don’t forget to check out Blondie’s in Dunmore and get your garden ready in time for summer! Trees and shrubs are available to order now, arriving in April.
