Alberta RCMP is reminding residents to stay safe and wear a seatbelt.
Police in the province handed out 2,960 tickets for seatbelt-related offences in the province last year.
Police said the fine for not obeying the laws of the road is $162.
Officers provided a few tips residents can implement before hitting the road:
- Make sure to wear a seatbelt when in a vehicle and ensure it's fastened before leaving.
- Keep the lap belt positioned across the hips and the shoulder belt sitting across the centre of the chest.
- Ensure the seatbelt doesn't become twisted.
- Use seatbelts on off-road or recreational vehicles.
- Drivers and passengers are responsible for making sure people under the age of 16 years old are using occupant restraints.
- Always use the seatbelts provided on off-road or recreational vehicles.
StrathmoreNow has reached out to RCMP to determine how many of the nearly 3,000 tickets were issued to drivers in the area. We will update the story once we hear back.
