Rob Carnie - It's another edition of Take 5 with Carney and Carmichael, featuring Maryse Carmichael, Moose Jaw’s City Manager.
A month ago, the last time we talked Maryse, we were talking about the fact we were hoping for a slow melt. We didn't get any flooding issues here in Moose Jaw, so far so good right?
Maryse Carmichael - I am so grateful to Mother Nature; she has been kind in the last few weeks for sure.
We've had a slow thaw which has really helped us. We've had a roadways crew really preparing, we were proactive and looking at all the catch basins, and I love learning new things about our city. Do you know how many catch basins we have in the city?
Rob - No idea.
Maryse - One thousand, nine hundred and fifty.
Rob - Wow.
Maryse - Our crews split the city in eight different sectors, and they went around to open those catch basins to make sure that if it was going to be a fast thaw, we were covered. Fortunately, we're doing pretty well.
Rob - And the snow removal process continues
Maryse - We're in that kind of crazy season where some days we're filling potholes, some days we're removing snow, and some days we're clearing catch basins. Our roadways crews are doing all of that at the same time depending on the flavor of the day.
