Airdrie commuters are in for a possibly rough ride today, with thick fog reducing visibility this morning and blowing snow expected to create hazards later in the day.

A Fog Advisory was in effect for Rocky View County, including Airdrie and Crossfield, for most of Thursday morning, though it has since been lifted.

The afternoon commute won’t be much better as snow begins around noon, with blowing snow developing by late afternoon. Winds from the north gusting up to 60 km/h will make for poor driving conditions. The high will reach +1°C, but with wind chill, it will feel closer to -5°C.

Periods of snow will continue into the evening, with another 2 cm of accumulation expected. Winds will gradually ease, but temperatures will drop to -12 °C, with a wind chill of -16 °C overnight.

Thursday morning it was reported that the QEII towards Calgary remains bare and dry, but fog patches are affecting visibility. Conditions are currently rated fair. Similar conditions have been reported in the North of Airdrie.
