After more than 45 years of providing Steinbach and the surrounding area with quality fabrics and the sales and service of sewing machines and sergers, Fay’s Fabric Villa is preparing to close its doors for the final time.

Marilyn and Allen Thiessen, who have owned the business since 2010, are getting ready to retire, and they’d like to thank their Southeast friends for their many years of patronage.

“Retirement is something we’re looking forward to, although it brings some sadness as well, knowing that Steinbach’s only fabric store is shutting down,” reflects Marilyn Thiessen. “We appreciate all the business our customers have given us over the years.”

Over its final few weeks of operation, March 22nd , Fay’s Fabric Villa will be applying large discounts to its entire inventory: between 70% and 90% off. Its various configurations of shelving are also available to buy (contact the store owner, Marilyn at 204-380-4019, for details).

Initially owned by Dave and Mark Hiebert in the late 1970s, Fay’s offered much-needed fabric selection and machine sales to customers in southeast Manitoba. For many years the business also ran a mobile division that took its fabrics, sewing machines and sergers on the road to parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta.

When the Thiessen’s purchased the business, it was located at the Brookdale Mall at 320 Main St in Steinbach. For the past eight years it’s served customers from the Steinbach Shoppers Plaza at 276 Main St.

“It’s been 14-and-a-half years now that I have managed the store,” says Marilyn. “Sewing machine and serger servicing has also been something that customers in our community have appreciated, in addition to the fabric and machine sales.”

Fay’s Fabric Villa remains open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday to Friday, and from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Saturdays. It can be reached by calling (204) 326-3772.

“We thank you for your support,” says Marilyn.
