Tina Wall (Gerbrandt) was born near Swift Current, SK on January 19, 1933 to Thomas & Justina (Teichroeb) Gerbrandt. Her premature arrival resulted in her being kept warm on the cookstove tucked in her father’s shoebox. The family moved to the Winkler area when Tina was 4 years old and settled near Osterwick where she and her siblings attended school. She completed Gr 7 and though she would’ve liked to continue, her help was needed at home. She was baptized in the Sommerfeld church at the age of 17. She married Jacob H. Wall on April 4, 1954. As newlyweds they lived and worked on a farm near Manitou before moving to Winnipeg, and then to the Austin area where they farmed until their retirement in 1992. Mom worked side by side with Dad whether it was milking cows, combining or fencing, and tipping the 1 ton was not enough to get her fired.

Mom loved knitting, crocheting and especially sewing…and whistling. Mom started sewing at a young age and was making dresses for her mother and sisters as a teenager. She continued whistling while she sewed Barbie dresses, denim jeans, bags, rugs and blankets as well as skirts, shirts and winter parkas for her kids. Using donated but unacceptable articles from MCC, Mom would remake them and return them to MCC as hundreds of potholders, slippers and other items…and keep on whistling. When it came to recycling, mom was ahead of the times. Necessity had taught her to re-do, re-use and make-do.

Tina is survived by son Albert (Margaret); grandchildren Michael (Janine) with Olivia and Kaitlynn; Derek (Shawna) with Leah and Jacob; Justin (Krishawna) with Elliaunna, Thea, Dallas and Jude; Laura (Jeremy) Finnestad; Curtis (Marisa); son Les (Helen): grandchildren Nathan (Sherry) with Eloise, Cohen, Declan; Jeremy (Alana) with Elijah, Ben, Miriam, Lily, Ethan; Amanda (Terry) Peters with Brayden; Lloyd (Jessie) with Liam, Ian, Jazmine, Jayde, Jemma; Moses with Justice; son Gerald (Susan): grandchildren Nicholas (Diana) with Ben, Myla, Hannah; Stephen (Raechelle) with Sophia, Raeleigh, Holden, Millie; Sheila (Josh) Unrau with Sadie, Carson, Karissa, Jarrett, Jenna, Bethany; Conrad (Melissa) with Zack; daughter Diana (Kenneth) Wright with Emily, Davis (Amber), Bradley; her siblings Jake (Tina), Annie, Sarah, Helen (John Friesen), Marge (George Martens) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Jake in 2017, her parents, one sister and one sister in infancy, also Jake’s sister and niece.

Mom and Dad enjoyed their travels to Bolivia, Mexico, Alaska, B.C., Northern Alberta, Ontario and the Maritimes. They spent a few winters in Arizona (Mom took her sewing machine) and in later years they participated in many Manitoba Seniors Camps, and fishing and camping trips with friends. In 2016, mom and dad moved to Victoria Place and then to the MacGregor Personal Care Home by herself in January, 2022.

Some organizations Mom was proud to be involved in were MCC, Sommerfeld Ladies Aid and Choir, Canadian Red Cross, and the Manitoba Agricultural Museum where she spent many volunteer hours as a teacher in one of the village schools.

It was difficult for her when the time came that she could no longer whistle or sew and finally, as much as she enjoyed visiting with others, they could no longer understand her words. But through it all God was faithful. He blessed her with good health, a generous portion of determination and a sprinkling of spunk and energy to add some spice. This is one more project that Tina has now completed. And as mom so often said at the end of another task, ”Well, that didn’t take me very long!”

A special Thank-You to staff and friends at Victoria Place and MacGregor Personal Care Home who were such an important part of her last years.
