After a stretch of hazardous conditions that forced a tow ban on Highway 2, RCMP has lifted the restriction, signaling an improvement in road conditions. But while traffic is moving more freely, winter isn’t done just yet.
The tow ban was imposed Thursday as freezing rain, black ice, and thick fog turned the highway into a danger zone from Edmonton city limits to Highway 611. Drivers faced treacherous conditions, with RCMP urging extreme caution due to poor visibility and slippery roads. Now, with the worst behind, travel has improved, though lingering ice and fluctuating temperatures mean drivers should remain cautious, especially in the early morning and late at night.
