The Board of Directors for Envision Counselling & Support Centre are hoping to have some new members signed on before their Annual General Meeting, which is being held June 18th in Estevan.
Communications Coordinator Raven Daer said this is so they can be introduced at the AGM, and have what they need to be prepared.
"To have all of our ducks in a row, so that moving forward into our new year, we are fresh and ready with a wonderful team to support us in everything we are looking at doing."
She said they endeavour to provide board members with 'as much training as they can possibly handle', which she noted is the way things are done at Envision.
"We just want to ensure that anyone on our team is being successful, they are focusing on the personal growth and how that can reflect in the agency," said Daer.
"It's a great opportunity for people that want to support communities. I know that not oftentimes you're able to join a board and you can serve a population of up to 56,000 people across the southern corner of the province, so I think that's really amazing and it is very, very meaningful and impactful work that we are doing here, so it is something that they're able to be proud of as well."
New members can choose to remain as members-at-large while learning the ropes, or they can join one of Envision's committees. The board meets once a month in either Weyburn or Estevan, but there is also a virtual option for when weather or other commitments don't allow for travel.
"We try to be really flexible and inclusive for all of those things because we do recognize it is volunteer time, so we don't want to make it stressful or another added thing that feels like it's maybe not something they can have within their capacity," she shared, adding they don't hold meetings in July, August, or December, which is why the timing is important to bring new members on board prior to their June meeting.
"Meetings are typically one to two hours. They're not too long. A board member can expect to spend maybe three to five hours a month on board-related tasks and duties, depending on how heavily involved they are."
Daer said they hope to get help from those who can join, as their board makes a significant difference to those in need. She said they are especially interested in working with people who are passionate for helping others, and who may even have some skill sets, knowledge, or experience they don't already have amongst their team.
"So those valuable assets are something that we are hopeful to find and we're very excited to see who joins our team and how that will look in the future."
While they don't turn away any sort of applications, Daer emphasized their particular need for representation in specific areas and backgrounds.
"Right now we are looking at hopefully filling some spots with folks who have experience in the finance sector. So working potentially within banking industries and those sorts of things just to help us with our financials."
She said they are also hoping to attract a new board member with experience within the law field.
"We formerly had a police officer from Weyburn on our board, but he has now resigned as he does not have capacity any longer, so we're looking to fill those positions as well as maybe finding just some different voices as well. So more representation in terms of potentially Indigenous folks, those who have different lived experiences, those sorts of things."
