A confirmed case of measles in the Calgary area has Alberta Health Services (AHS) health officials concerned other people have been exposed.

This case has been in public settings in the Calgary area while infectious states an AHS news release, and has identified four locations in the Airdrie area where people may have come in contact.

Measles is an extremely contagious disease and is spread easily through the air.

Below are locations with specific times were people may have been exposed to measles:

March 8, 2025

Airdrie Superstore

300 Veterans Blvd. NE, Airdrie.

Exposure time: Approx. 2 p.m. – 3 p.m.

March 9, 2025

New Horizon Mall – Sky Castle Family Entertainment Centre and cafeteria

260300 Writing Creek Cres., Balzac AB

Exposure time: Approx. 12 p.m. – 3 p.m.

March 11, 2025

Airdrie Urgent Care

604 Main St. S., Airdrie AB

Exposure time: Approx. 3:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.

March 12, 2025

One Health Associate Medical Clinic

836 1 Ave. NW, #201, Airdrie AB

Exposure time: Approx. 9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.

Anyone who attended these locations at these times who was born in or after 1970 and has less than two documented doses of measles-containing vaccine, is at risk for developing measles and is strongly encouraged to review their immunization records and monitor themselves for symptoms of measles.

Symptoms of measles include:

  • Fever of 38.3° C or higher; and
  • Cough, runny nose and/or red eyes; and
  • A red blotchy rash that appears three to seven days after a fever starts, beginning behind the ears and on the face and spreading down the body to the arms and legs.

If measles symptoms do develop, individuals are advised to stay home and call Health Link at 811 before visiting any healthcare facility or provider, including a family physician clinic, or pharmacy.
