Anna Sawatzky, at 100 years and 6 months, passed away peacefully with her daughter Carolynne by her side early morning March 14, 2025, at Bethania Personal Care Home.
Anna Sawatzky (Letkeman) was born to Peter and Anna Letkeman (Thiessen) September 3rd, 1924, in Eichenfeld, Manitoba. She then moved to Stephenfield. When she was four years old the family moved to Oak Lake in 1928 in the fall. There she spent her youth years. She was baptized by Alt Johann Enns at First Mennonite Church in Oak Lake at age 19, July 1st, 1943, on confession of her faith.

In 1947 the family moved to Rutledge, again on a farm. There was always lots to do on the farm. She enjoyed Sunday school, young peoples and singing in the choir with her dad as choir director. Anna also enjoyed family and friend’s gatherings. She went to Bible school for two years in Winnipeg at the First Mennonite Church. At a youth meeting at her farm, Anna met her husband Henry who came to build a house for his cousins, the Neufelds, in Griswold. They were married June 25th, 1949, by Altester Johann Enns in the Oak Lake United Church with 450 guests attending as their own church was being built. We also celebrated my parents 25th anniversary. They moved to Whitewater and joined the church and had their daughter Carolynne and son Larie while there. In 1955 they moved to Winnipeg where their other three children were born, daughter Janet, son Richard, and daughter Catherine. In 1960 Anna and Henry joined the Sargent Ave Mennonite Church.

Anna and Henry had 64 special years together until Henry passed away in Aug. 2013. Anna was blessed with 13 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.
Anna is survived by her brother David (Elsie) Letkeman, sister Louise Jordan and many nieces and nephews. She is survived by her daughter Carolynne (Garry) Kornelsen, son Larie (Luise) Sawatzky, daughter Janet McAlduff (Peter Reynolds) and daughter Cathy Unruh (Pat Hastings) and all their family. Anna was predeceased by her parents Peter H and Anna Letkeman, sister Mary (Elmer) Harder, sister Wilma (Wesley) Kitchingman, brother Erwin (Tina) Letkeman, brother Frank (Elvira) Letkeman, sister Rose passed on Feb. 15, 2025 (John) Ferrara, and brother-in-law John Jordan. She’s predeceased by her husband Henry, father-in-law and mother-in-law Dietrich and Katharina Sawatzky and sisters-in-law Susan and Anne. Deceased in her immediate family is son Richard Sawatzky in June 2024, great-granddaughter Paige Kornelsen in October 2015.

Thank you to ALL the staff at Bethania Personal Care Home for the 3 ½ years who lovingly cared for Anna and made her feel special.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 26, 2025, Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield Street, Winnipeg, viewing prior to service. Interment at Brookside Cemetery. Donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation or Alzhiemer Foundation.
