Christian artist Rachael Lampa has released a new song honouring World Down Syndrome Day.

On Oct. 28, 2022, Rachael gave birth to her second child, Leo, who was born with Down syndrome.

"I could’ve never imagined that my life could be so flipped upside down in the most steadying way. That everything would change, but also stay the same. That I could feel like a peaceful river while also having a roaring lion inside ready to defend and make a way if there isn’t one," said Lampa in a post on Instagram. "I am changed by Leo. I am changed by his Down Syndrome diagnosis. I have never felt so at home in myself and my heart."

The new song "Superpowers" reminds listeners that people living with Down syndrome, like her son, Leo, are regular people with extra powers.

"I think some would say he’s developing slower and that he’s doing things differently, but I think those are actually his superpowers,” said Lampa in an interview with News 8. “Those are actually what makes him special and beautiful and powerful. They’re the things that have slowed us down and helped us to live more intentionally, and more present. A lot more joy, a lot more laughter."

Lampa says she is so honoured to be able to sing a song for her son and release it on World Down Syndrome Day.

"It's great to be a part of something really holy and beautiful that God has offered to me and my family and to walk with someone who has such light and such gift to give to the world."

Lampa is encouraging other families who have a similar story to her family to tag her with the goal of having a huge superpowers party.

World Down Syndrome Day is recognized every year on March 21.
