The Alberta government is investing $3.2 million to renovate the Strathmore courthouse.
The facility will close on Mar. 31, with all court cases being taken to Calgary in the interim. Construction is expected to begin in June, with renovations slated for completion in about two years.
"The renovations will help make sure the courthouse has the resources and space it needs to support modernization and help the justice system to function effectively and increase Albertans’ access to justice," said minister of justice Mickey Amery.
The renovations include an expansion to the lobby area and upgrades to video technology.Â
"Renovations will improve accessibility by upgrading washrooms to meet barrier free requirements," wrote the province.
There will also be new security upgrades and improved space for court staff. This includes more day offices and a reorganization of the court's administrative area.
The renovations were first announced by Alberta courts in early February.
