RCMP say the collision northwest of Zhoda Sunday morning resulted in multiple fatalities.
Officers from the Steinbach RCMP Detachment were called to the two-vehicle, head-on collision on Highway 12 at 9:25 a.m. Sunday, approximately five kilometres northwest of Zhoda.
Investigators believe a minivan, travelling north on Highway 12, attempted to pass a semi-trailer when it collided head-on with a southbound SUV.
The 76-year-old male driver of the minivan, along with a 72-year-old female passenger, were pronounced deceased on scene. A 37-year-old male passenger was transported to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance in serious condition.
The 41-year-old male driver of the SUV was transported to hospital in critical condition.
Steinbach RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
The La Broquerie Fire Department also responded to the collision. Fire Captain Yves Nadeau one of the La Broquerie Fire Trucks, stayed at the scene of the collision to assist with directing traffic until 1:30 p.m., when it returned back to the fire hall
