The Reid-Thompson Library Board seeking new board members

The Reid-Thompson Library Board is currently sitting with a number of vacancies, so the call is going out to people interested in supporting the library and its extensive programming.  

Each year the library hosts a wide range of entertaining and educational presentations. Board members help to steer the direction of that programming based on community needs and feedback. The end goal is to make the library a more attractive destination for residents.  

Information provided by the Wapiti Regional Library includes requirements for becoming a board member: 

• Belief in the importance of libraries and commitment to the Library’s Mission Statement.  

• Library membership.   

• At least 18 years of age.  

• Resident of the municipality.   

• Not employed by the library. 

Tasks for appointed board members include: 

• Become aware of and fully informed on library matters and issues.   

• Contribute to discussion and decision making at board meetings.  

• Accept responsibility for the affairs of the library in the five areas of policy, finance, personnel, advocacy, and programs and services.  

• Participate in fund development for ongoing capital projects. 

•  Volunteer at events to promote the library in the community.
