Canada is now in the midst of a snap federal election, as called by Prime Minister Mark Carney on Sunday, March 23.

Parties have been slowly announcing candidates for most of 2025, including in the Foothills riding, which saw three new names put forward, bringing the total to five.

Two candidates have been in the running for a while now: Foothills MP John Barlow with the Conservative Party of Canada is running for re-election, and Liberal Party candidate John Bruinsma was acclaimed on Feb. 20.

Last week, Paul O'Halloran was named the People's Party of Canada candidate for the Foothills after their previous candidate had to drop out.

More recently, the Green Party listed a Foothills candidate by the name of Emma Hoberg, and multiple sources list a New Democratic Party candidate, Kattie Aurora.

The candidate nomination deadline is April 7 at 2 p.m.
