Henry Kasdorf
February 12, 1938 – March 22, 2025
Peacefully in his sleep at the Grace Hospital, Henry Kasdorf, age 87, slipped into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, in whom he had placed his confidence.
Henry is survived by his son Barry (Cindy Eaglesham) and daughter Karen (Rob Schroeder) and their families; three brothers, John, Jake and Abe; six sisters, Susan, Helen, Mary, Frieda, Linda, Hilda and their families. Henry is predeceased by his wife Mary (Funk), son Jeff, his parents Peter and Susanna Kasdorf; three brothers, Peter, Corny, Frank; three sisters, Anne, Jessie, Betty and numerous in-laws.
Henry was born on February 12, 1938, in the rural municipality of Stanley just south of Morden, MB. He was the 7th child of 16 born to Peter and Susanna Kasdorf. The family moved to a farm near Niverville in 1950. He continued to live in the Niverville area till he moved to a condo in Winnipeg in 2002. Currently he was living at Lindenwood Manor in Winnipeg. Henry loved to learn and shared the things he learned but not necessarily in the school setting. He left school early to help on the farm and for the majority of his life he pursued a career in truck driving, covering many miles in Canada and the US for a variety of companies till 2006.
Henry married Mary on July 15, 1960, and they were married for nearly 60 years. They attended the Niverville MB Church and later the Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church where new friendships were made and old ones rekindled. They had 3 children, Barry, Karen, and Jeff; 7 grandchildren, Laura and JR, Sarah and Matt, Carla, Kaylin and Jordan, Corinne, Megan and Tyler, Mark, and 5 great-grandchildren.
Henry enjoyed many things, helping on the farm, trucking as a living for many years, camping with his 5th wheel both locally and in Texas during several winters. He liked playing and watching sports, especially golf and hockey. A priority for him was golfing with his siblings and friends, making the annual Kasdorf golf tournament and camping week. Henry grew up playing pick-up hockey with friends and later watched his grandchildren as they progressed through the game. He was still able to enjoy watching his granddaughter Corinne on TV for the last several years as she pursued a career as a professional hockey player.
Family was important to Henry. During retirement he enjoyed breakfasts with his siblings and made an effort to call them, especially those further away, where they would reminisce and catch up for hours. Conversing with people was important to him and he share his jokes and sense of humor with them or share stories, especially trucking stories. Henry grew up in a Christian home and is a testimony of God’s faithfulness through many difficult seasons in life. He believed in God’s saving grace and mercy and was growing closer to his Savior in his later years.
The family we would like to thank the staff at the Lindenwood Manor for helping Dad this past year, showing him kindness and respect. Thank you to the Grace Hospital staff for their care this past week as he struggled with his health.
Memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 28, 2025, at Winnipeg Evangelical Free Church, 500 Lagimodiere Blvd. Prior to service, a private burial will take place at Hespeler Cemetery, Niverville.
