Parts of western Manitoba are now under a special weather statement as a snow-filled system sets its sights on Manitoba.

A developing low-pressure system from Alberta is set to bring heavy snowfall to western Manitoba, beginning late Thursday afternoon and continuing into Friday evening.

Environment Canada says that heavy, rapidly accumulating snowfall will begin Thursday evening and persist through Friday morning before tapering off overnight.

Travel conditions are expected to deteriorate Thursday evening and remain challenging throughout Friday due to reduced visibility in heavy snowfall and localized blowing snow.

Most areas will see 10 to 20 cm of fresh snow, with some regions—particularly along the eastern slopes of the Riding and Duck Mountains, as well as the Swan Hills—potentially receiving more than 20 cm.
