Chestermere boxer Randy Polines brought home some serious hardware this past weekend, winning a gold medal at the Canada Cup.

"I'm very happy to have fought in an event like that," said Polines.

Polines was also named national rookie of the year by Boxing Canada.

He's also the number-one ranked boxer in his division of 51 kg.

"I put in the work, the blood, sweat, and tears to get to that position," recalled Polines.

His journey in boxing began four years ago with his brother.

"I wanted to do boxing just as a way to stay fit but the more I kept doing it the more I fell in love with the sport," added Polines.

His next goal is to get into the 2028 Summer Olympics.

"If I keep doing my thing then that's when I'll know for sure," said Polines.

Polines trains four to five hours a day, twice a day.

"It's very hard on the body, it's very hard on the mind because sometimes I don't even want to do it. But it's something I got to do," Polines told StrathmoreNow.

For now, he asked fans to keep an eye out for him.

"This is just the beginning of my journey."

Three other Chestermere Boxing Club athletes also won two gold medals and one silver at the Canada Cup.
