Southern Alberta, including the Cochrane area is bracing for a significant weather system expected to bring a mix of snow, rain, and freezing rain beginning Wednesday night and lasting through Friday.
With winter travel conditions set to impact much of central Alberta, residents and commuters are urged to stay prepared for challenging conditions.
The system is expected to bring heavy, wet snow to west-central Alberta, including communities such as Grande Prairie, Whitecourt, and Edson. By Thursday morning, snow will intensify across central Alberta, with the Edmonton area seeing significant snowfall.
Further south, areas including Red Deer and points east may experience a mix of rain and freezing rain before transitioning to snow by Thursday afternoon.
Snowfall amounts are expected to range from 5 to 20 cm across central Alberta by Friday morning. However, localized areas near the Rocky Mountains and west-central Alberta, including Grande Prairie, could see higher accumulations, with totals potentially reaching up to 25 cm.
