According to the City of Calgary, fluoride will be added to Strathmore's water supply sometime this summer.

In the 2021 Calgary municipal election, residents were asked in a plebiscite whether they favoured reintroducing fluoridation to the city's water.

Sixty-one per cent of residents voted in favour, while only 38 per cent voted against the measure.

Strathmore Mayor Pat Fule explained to StrathmoreNow that the town will also get fluoride in its water supply.

"We receive our water from Calgary, so we will get the same fluoridation as Calgary."

Fule added that the town has contacted the city about the issue.

"We have reached out to the city numerous times to ask about this, and we don't get a say in this," he said.

"It's supposed to be the lowest possible amount that can help with teeth, but I don't have all the science," Fule added.

Other cities including Chestermere will also be affected.

The city told residents they will be notified about the reintroduction date four weeks ahead.
