Sean Secord, the Liberal candidate for the Airdrie-Cochrane riding, is eager to engage with residents to understand their concerns and share his passion for serving the community.
A two-year Cochrane resident, the 52-year-old brings deep-rooted family connections to Airdrie and other Alberta communities, positioning him to effectively represent local interests.
He advocates for a comprehensive review and modernization of Canada's healthcare system and the Canada Health Act.
"We are definitely in need of more robust, multidisciplinary, accessible primary care for everybody, especially the multidisciplinary team approach where it's accessible 24/7 and and we don't rely on urgent care or emergency departments to meet our primary care needs."
This view is informed by his extensive medical background.
He has master's degrees in healthcare and business, along with a certified health executive designation from the Canadian College of Health Leaders. He currently serves as vice president of an Alberta-based biotechnology company that specializes in early disease detection.
Secord previously pioneered new roles with a pan-Canadian health organization that provides advice on evidence-based approaches to healthcare delivery and resource allocation to achieve the best health outcomes
Before then, he led quality improvement and risk management for Yukon's three hospitals. From 2012 to 2014, he managed the completion, staffing, and opening of two newly built hospitals. Earlier, in the 2000s, he played a key role in establishing Yukon’s dedicated medevac program.
With the snap federal election set for Apr. 28, Secord faces the challenge of increasing his visibility within a limited timeframe. He is establishing a social media presence and plans to attend the Airdrie Regional Home and Lifestyle Show on April 12-13 to connect directly with constituents.
"I want to hear what's important to the constituents," Secord emphasized. "As a Member of Parliament, you represent your riding in Ottawa, so I want to be a good representative, but I need to know what the priority issues are for people in Airdrie, Cochrane, and the surrounding areas. I'm not about to force a platform on people. I want to hear what's important to people so that I can represent them."
Community members can reach out to Secord via email at sean.secord@airdriecochranemp.com. His profile will soon be available on the national Liberal website.
