With warmer months on the horizon, highway maintenance is being discussed, with some improvements being considered. That was one point from the recent provincial budget, which showed a few roads around the southeast would see work done.
Brian Johnson, the Estevan City Council appointee for the Southeast Area Transportation Planning Committee, says some more info will be laid out at an upcoming AGM.
"We're going to be having a few guest speakers in order to apprise some of the industry of what's going to be coming to our area and into Saskatchewan, some of the things that we're struggling with, with trying to keep highways fixed up and performing."
The AGM will also include announcements specifying which roads will see funds from the provincial government and what work people can expect coming soon.
The meeting will also be a forum that will let members bring up concerns with local highway infrastructure, especially after the winter.
Some recent conversations by the committee have centered around fees as the members are looking to get out to rural communities to talk about why they're helping out the southeast.
"We're trying to go and meet with some of these RMs and villages and towns in order to tell these communities the importance of belonging to the Southeast Area Transportation Planning Committee, because it's good for their roads and good for their connectors in and around those areas where there's highways and grid roads and also access to traffic."
Other work has included fielding issues from rural communities that can be forwarded to the provincial government.
Johnson says he thinks it's a very rewarding committee to be a part of, with plenty of work still ongoing.
