A Drumheller landmark is shutting down.
The World's Largest Dinosaur (WLD) will close by the end of the decade.
According to the Drumheller & District Chamber of Commerce, the current lease term for the massive dino ends in December 2029. This also includes the gift shop and visitor information centre.
“While this announcement is a difficult one, it’s also an opportunity for the chamber to refocus on our core mission: supporting local businesses, advocating on their behalf and fostering economic growth in Drumheller,” said Lana Phillips, president of the chamber.

The WLD, also known as Tyra, was constructed in 2000. The funds from admission costs and gift shop sales were invested back into local community projects, contributing $40,000 in 2024 alone.
According to the chamber, they will be working alongside Travel Drumheller, the Town of Drumheller, local businesses, and residents, to commemorate Tyra and to ensure that the tourism industry in Drumheller stays strong.
The chamber said it has no interest in continuing the lease and is not exploring re-location options for the dinosaur.
The organization added that it is too early to say if there will be any efforts to create a new attraction to replace Tyra.
