Chestermere has ticked off all 12 directives stemming from a municipal inspection report.
The directives were issued by Alberta Minister of Municipal Affairs Ric McIver, who signed off on the inspection in a letter dated March 12, 2025.
“We’ve had the opportunity to run into Minister McIver at a few events, and he has expressed to all of us on council how pleased he has been with the work of this council and this administration, including recently,” said Chestermere Mayor Shannon Dean.
The news comes following a municipal inspection where three members of council, along with former Mayor Jeff Colvin were fired from their jobs on December 4, 2023.
"The inspection ultimately found Chestermere’s finances to have been managed in an irregular, improper and improvident manner between October 2021 and December 2023," said a release from the province.
McIver also dismissed three former chief administrative officers as well.
"This significant achievement marks a key step forward in restoring and ensuring sound local governance and adherence to provincial regulations, particularly those related to the Municipal Government Act," said the city in a release.
Staff with the city said the minister was satisfied with the city addressing the requirements and restoring transparent governance.
“This is a big day for the City of Chestermere,” said CAO Kent Edney, “It puts this inspection behind us, and the minister is satisfied with how council is operating, with how administration is operating. It’s in the rear-view mirror now.”
