Cochrane RCMP warns motorists to avoid Highway 22 between Cochrane and Sundre due to extremely poor conditions. The advisory, shared by 511 Alberta just after 8 this evening, urges drivers to postpone travel until conditions improve.

Further north, Leduc RCMP have also advised motorists to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary due to hazardous weather and road conditions in that region.
Before 8:30 this evening, Mounties noted a tow ban is now in effect within the area of Leduc.
Closer to Airdrie, the QEII Highway remains in fair condition both north and south of the city. However, conditions deteriorate just past Bowden, where snowfall and icy sections begin. North of Red Deer, conditions worsen further, with partial snow coverage, ice on the shoulders, and slippery surfaces reported.
Motorists should also prepare for difficult driving conditions in and around Airdrie. The forecast predicts periods of snow or freezing drizzle ending near midnight, followed by a 60 pe rcent chance of flurries or freezing drizzle overnight. Winds of 20 km/h, gusting to 40 km/h, will diminish in the evening, with temperatures dropping to –6 C and wind chill near –10.
On Friday, the region will see cloudy skies with a 60 per cent chance of morning flurries before periods of snow begin later in the morning. There’s also a risk of freezing drizzle, with winds up to 15 km/h and a high of –3 C, though the wind chill will remain near –10. Snowfall of 2 to 4 cm is expected Friday night, with temperatures dropping to –8 C and wind chill reaching –13 overnight.
Travellers using major routes through central and northern Alberta should expect unpredictable conditions and exercise caution.
