A Drumheller man has started a petition in an effort to save the World's Largest Dinosaur.

Resident AJ Frey learned the iconic attraction will be closed by 2029 and said he doesn't want Tyra's story to end.

"The main reason I started the petition is because I was shocked by the announcement, said Frey.

"We just want to know why there was no discussion about what's happening with this town landmark."

Frey added that if Tyra needs upgrades or maintenance, he'd be glad to discuss a solution.

"We’re beginning conversations with the town to learn more about the lease and future plans," Frey added in the petition.

The petition has collected more than 1,000 signatures.

"I'm honoured that it's got the momentum that it's got and grateful for everyone's support."

"It's the first thing you see when you come into the valley and hearing first thing in the morning that we're just going to get rid of it was a lot to handle for a lot of us."

The petition can be viewed here.
