Families in the RM of Ritchot will have plenty of options to keep busy during spring break, with activities planned across the municipality.
While there won’t be a traditional spring break camp, Danielle Peters, coordinator of community engagement, says a variety of events will be available throughout the week.
One highlight is the power skating camp, hosted by Competitive Edge Power in St. Adolphe. “It’s really just for skaters to take their skating to the next level with a high-energy camp,” says Peters. “It focuses a lot on speed, agility and technique—perfect for hockey and ringette players looking to improve their edge work.” The camp runs daily, with separate sessions for intermediate and advanced skaters.
For those looking for something more casual, the Rec on the Road program will also run throughout the week. Typically a summer event, the program is being adapted for spring break, bringing recreational activities to different communities each day.
“We load up one of our vehicles with all the rec equipment we can find—sports equipment, crafts, board games—and set up in the park,” says Peters. The free drop-in program will be held indoors to accommodate the season.
To wrap up the week, the RM of Ritchot will host a family movie night on Thursday at the Trans Canada Centre in Ile des Chenes. The featured film is Migration, an animated movie about birds returning home in the spring. “I think it’s perfect timing because I’ve been seeing some birds out there coming home,” says Peters.
The movie is free to attend, with doors opening at 6 p.m. and the screening starting at 6:45 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own chairs, blankets and even wear pajamas. Snacks will be available for purchase from The Big Lemonade Truck.
