A semi-trailer jackknifed on the QEII between Highway 2A and Highway 581 Wednesday morning has been cleared.
Two earlier incidents on the northbound QEII near the same junction were cleared earlier in the morning. A semi jackknifed just south of Highway 581 around 7:02 a.m., with a follow-up update at 7:35 a.m. confirming the vehicle had been cleared.
Highway conditions remained poor in the Airdrie region throughout the morning, with snow, ice and low visibility affecting multiple routes. It was reported that the QEII was partly snow-covered in both directions, with icy shoulders and slush creating hazardous conditions.
Similar warnings were issued for Highway 72 east of Airdrie toward Beiseker.
In Calgary, southbound Stoney Trail N.W. remains closed from Crowchild Trail to Nose Hill Drive. Police advised drivers to take alternate routes as they investigated the multi-vehicle collision.
Environment Canada lifted its snowfall warning for the region, but light snow and flurries were expected to continue throughout the day. The forecast called for a high of 0 C with morning wind chills near –8. Up to four centimetres of additional snow was expected overnight.
Conditions are forecast to improve Thursday, with a high of 2 C and a morning wind chill near –12.
